The Industrial Group Sponsors Effat University’s Queen Effat Citizenship Award for the fourth year in a row

Under the patronage and presence of HRH Princess Lolowah AlFaisal, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and General Supervisor of  Effat University, and with the attendance of Sheikh Hussein A. Al-Banawi, Chairman and CEO of  The Industrial Group, and personalities from the students’ parents, community members & the media; Effat University crowned Architecture student Ghaidaa Gutub as the winner of  the ‘Queen Effat Citizenship Award’, on Sunday, 30th of October, 2016.


The sponsorship is part of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, where the Group consciously endeavors to build upon two central pillars. On the one hand, an unwavering obligation to its share owners, customers and employees to effectively compete in an ever-expanding marketplace while on the other hand, to ensure through its actions a determined commitment to be a responsible corporate citizen.


As Sheikh Hussein A. Al-Banawi delivered his commencement speech to the young graduates, he addressed them by the focusing on the following points:

  • It is the hunger and tenacity of our youth for achievement, excellence and innovation that will define our future and with that the promise it brings for a better world for all of us
  • Reflection is the art of allowing space in your mind away from the clutter that causes busyness in your daily life so that you are able to think through in the surrounding elements of each option and decision you plan to make
  • As you ponder your choices such as your fist job or career aspirations, seek the trusted advice and counsel of a mentor that persistently urges you to leave your comfort zone in search of higher goals
  • Be resilient, resourceful and always look at the glass half full

Believe in yourself and realize that you are as good as your achievements and not your excuses

  • As you start your career, make sure that those values you chose, are always front and center to the actions and decisions of the day

Thirty candidates’ names were announced in the celebration, and the name of Ghaidaa Gutub was announced and celebrated as the winner of this prestigious award, who said: “I am honored to receive this award which holds a big responsibility for me for becoming the voice of the students” she added: “I thank my university and teachers who if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Ghaidaa Gutub, as the winner of Queen Effat Citizenship Award will enjoy several privileges and also acts as the President of Students’ Shura which is the legislative body of students that works with the Student Council to meet their needs.

The Group has been the sole sponsor of the Banawi Effat Ambassadors Scholarship Program since 2012. The program is an integral part of the Group’s CSR strategy which is based on the belief that in order to create the next generation of future leaders for the Middle East, there is an important role that not only the public but the private sector must play in advocating educational  excellence.

Sheikh Hussein A. Al-Banawi is also the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of The Effat Ambassadors Program, which was established at Effat University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to empower aspiring young women leaders. The program answer’s Sheikh Hussein’s vision that focuses on human development through education as a fundamental pillar to helping the youth of this region realize their career aspirations.
