Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Sheikh Hussein A. Al-Banawi, has served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Group since 2002. Sheikh Hussein first joined the Group in 1980 and was appointed as Division President in 1982 and Chief Executive Officer in 1985.

He has a bachelor’s degree with a dual major in political science and business administration from Rollins College (USA) culminating in an MBA from Rollins College. Sheikh Hussein is also: a member of the Board of Directors of Hawkamah – The Institute for Corporate Governance of the Dubai International Financial Centre; a member of the Board of Trustees, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the World Waqf Foundation of the Islamic Development Bank; a founding member of The John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement at The American University in Cairo; a founding member of the Council of Overseers of the Jones School of Management at Rice University (USA); the founder of the Chair in Islamic Economics, Finance and Management at Rice University; a founding member of the Advisory Board of the Space Biology Group of the Center of Competence in Aerospace Biomedical Science and Technology at The Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Switzerland); and the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of The Effat Ambassadors Program for the empowerment of aspiring women leaders at Effat University (Jeddah).
